Kelly Gould is our 4K teacher at AEK. She is originally from Selma, AL, but currently resides in Vestavia and has been in the Birmingham area for 9 years. She has a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Special Education and a Masters degree in Severe Disabilities, both from The University of Alabama. She worked at Hueytown Elementary School as a special education teacher for six years. She and her husband, Alex, have two children, Welles (4) and Hagen (2). They are active members at The Episcopal Church of the Ascension and have been so for two years. She has been at AEK for one year, and taught as one of the 2’s teachers. " I look forward to many more amazing years at AEK!"
Laure Christie teaches one of the 3-year-old classes at Ascension Episcopal Kindergarten. Laure grew up in Auburn, AL and is a graduate of Auburn University. She got her masters in education from UAB and has lived in Vestavia Hills for 25 years. Laure is the mother of 4 daughters, all of whom attended AEK! She was a parent at AEK from 1997-2007 and began teaching at AEK in 2013. "I love being a part of AEK--many of the sweetest memories of my children's childhoods come from their time at AEK!"
Angela Jackson teaches our Tuesday/Thursday 2s class and serves as our center assistant on the other days. She grew in Birmingham and attended Auburn University and AUM, earning her degree in Early Childhood Education. She has been teaching preschool for the last 10 years and is an artist in her free time. She is married to Michael and they have 2 children; Spencer is 18 and just graduated from VHHS and Isabelle is 15 and is a Rockette at Vestavia High School.
April Towry is our Monday - Thursday 2s teacher. She and her husband, Tim, have three children, Anna 15, Brooks 14, and John Robert 11 years old. She grew up in Vestavia her sister actually went to Ascension as a preschooler! "I’m so excited to meet your precious children and I promise to love them and care for them like they are my own. We will have a fun and exciting year together!"
Rebecca Posey is the director at AEK. She has taught in Episcopal schools for the past 15 years across the southeast. She attended Birmingham-Southern College and earned degrees in Elementary Collaborative Education and Dance. She and her husband are members of the Episcopal Church of Ascension along with their two children; Anadine is 8 years old and attends Vestavia East and Carter is 2 years old and attends AEK.
Ashley Ferris is one of our 3 year old teachers and has been at AEK for 6 years. She received her degree in Elementary Education from UAB. She taught 4th and 5th grades in Marietta, GA before having her babies and staying home to raise them. She and her husband, Ryan, have three children; Logan, 17, Emory Anne, 15, and Graham, 10. "I was born in Auburn so I bleed orange and blue. I enjoy reading books, exercising, and spending time with my large family."
Katie Rich-New is our 5K teacher. She recently moved to Birmingham from Austin, Texas. She has taught pre-K, kindergarten, first grade, and fourth grade and is eager to join our family here at AEK. Her energy and compassion for teaching will be a great fit for our 5K students. On the weekends she enjoys hiking with my her husband and puppy and taking in the beautiful scenery of Alabama. "By using fun and creative ways to teach lessons, I hope to foster a love of learning in my students."
Macey Rowland is the Music and Movement Teacher at AEK. She has lived in Hoover since 2009, and is a recent graduate of Birmingham-Southern College, where she received a B.A. in Music with Disciplinary Honors in Voice Performance. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking with friends, reading books, watching movies, and, of course, singing! "I believe that students learn musical skills exceptionally well through a holistic approach, so our classes will include singing, movement, listening, and improvisation. I look forward to teaching in a fun, engaging, and discovery-based way as one of AEK’s newest faculty members!"
